2013 Parade

Quick facts:
This year's parade we were blessed with sunny skies and temperatures in the 80s! We had nearly 100 official entrants and many more that showed up to march.

Nancy Pendegraph

Nancy Pendegraph was born January 30th 1948 in Athens, Alabama. From the Age of 7 she attended the Alabama School For the Blind in Talladega, Alabama, where she graduated as valedictorian of her class.She received a Bachelor of music from Birmingham Southern College, and a masters in counselor education from University of Arkansas. She worked for 32 years at the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services teaching people who're blind and visually impaired independent living skills. On the first weekend in August of 1990 she started playing at Finnegan's pub, there she has entertained many a pub goer with her unique sing along experience. she still plays there every friday with a wide repertoire of irish, show tunes, standards, blues, classic rock, and what ever else the audience throws out at her. Nancy has been the pianist and music director of the Light of Christ Center since 1981 in that position she has been in charge of all church music including directing her choir. She has played concerts where she has raised money for her guide dog school. Through the years she has sung in the Huntsville community chorus and since 1995 she has been an active participant in the Huntsville Feminist Chorus. In 1997 she was the music director for the musical Ruthless. Her first St. Patricks Day Parade experience was in 1983, since 1990 she has only missed one parade and for all of those years she has performed at Finnegan's after proudly marching in the parade every year. Nancy will be playing at Finnegan's Friday March the 15th and after the parade on Sat afternoon.

William G. Carter III
Lieutenant General, U.S. Army, Retired

Lieutenant General Carter entered the Army in 1963 as an enlisted man and was commissioned from Infantry Officer Candidate School in 1965. General Carter commanded at the platoon and company level in Vietnam with the 173rd Airborne Brigade and 82d Airborne Division. He also commanded companies at Fort Benning, Georgia and Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He commanded an infantry battalion in the 1st Armored Division, Germany and an infantry brigade in the 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado. He also commanded the 1St Armored Division in Germany.

Other assignments include G3 Operation Officer, 1st Armored Division, Chief of Plans and Integration for the Deputy Chief Of Staff Operations in Washington, D.C., Executive Assistant to the Chief Of Staff, Army, Washington, D.C., Assistant Division Commander( Maneuver) , 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas and Operation Desert Storm and Commander The National Training Center, Fort Irwin, California.

Lieutenant General Carter's last assignment was as Chief of Staff, Allied Forces Southern Europe, Naples, Italy and Chief of Staff, Implementation Force, in Sarajevo, Bosnia- Herzegovina.

Upon retirement, in 1997, Lieutenant General Carter was the Senior Vice President of SY Technology, Inc. and later President of W&L Consulting, Inc. He retired in 2011.

He is a graduate of the University of Tampa (BA) and the University of Pennsylvania at Shippensburg (MPA). He is also a graduate of the Management for Executives Program at the University of Pittsburgh, the Army Command and General Staff College and the Army War College.

His awards and decorations include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal (1OLC), the Army Distinguished Service Medal (1 OLC), the Bronze Star Medal with V device and 3 OLC, the Legion of Merit (6 OLC), The Purple Heart (1OLC) and numerous other awards and decorations.

Lieutenant General and his wife Linda married in 1965 and have two children and four grandchildren.

He is very proud of his Irish-Welsh-Celtic background and is a founding member and Financial Secretary of the Father Trecy Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians based in Huntsville, Alabama.
